The client approached Westwood Energy to design, install, and maintain a solar PV solution that would mitigate structural constraints while meeting the site’s substantial energy needs.
250kW | Co. Durham
Westwood Energy successfully installed 250kW of solar PV across two phases on a poultry unit in Co. Durham. Faced with high energy demands due to a large ground source heat pump and extensive ventilation systems, the project aimed to maximise energy efficiency by utilising all available roof space on the three poultry houses.

How much could solar PV save you?
608 Modules: 288 Trina Vertex 400W & 320 Trina Vertex 420W
Inverters: 1 x 100K SolarEdge & 2 x 50K SolarEdge
Optimisers: P850 SolarEdge
Mounting System: Sunfixings MRD S Mounting System
We executed the project in two phases, carefully navigating structural challenges to deliver a feasible and high-performing solar PV system. The installation covered all three poultry houses, optimising available roof space to achieve maximum energy production.
The project was completed on time and within budget, generating 219MWh annually, with 77% of the energy consumed on-site and 33% of import demand offset.
The client now saves approximately £56,000 per year, significantly reducing their energy costs.
