The brief was to utilise a disused plot of land (circa 7 acres) with the deployment of a 2MW ground mounted solar array. The scheme needed to have zero impact on existing site operations, enhance the environmental credentials of the Cranswick business and make a meaningful impact on energy consumption.
2MW | Norfolk
Westwood Energy installed a 2MW ground mounted solar array, including the installation of a 2.5 MVA substation at a food production facility in Norfolk to enhance the firm’s environmental credentials and provide reductions in energy consumption across the 7 acre site.

Due to the plot of land being located on a peat bog, detailed ground investigation reports were commissioned to conclude a design based on a ballasted solution.
Specific plant and equipment was specified to ensure minimal ground impact.
One outage was planned and undertaken through the night one Sunday to ensure no operational impact to the business. An expansion to the sites HV ring main was undertaken to add a 6th substation on site, this involves opening and reinstating jointing bays in an area of site with heavy vehicle movements.
Over 20% of energy demand on site is now being provided by solar, with a previously disused piece of land now adding benefit both financially and environmentally with enhanced grass mixture being sown.
”“Working on a 2MW ground mounted PV project with the Westwood team has been a pleasure. Their expertise, communication, proactiveness and quality of work have been second to none.”
