The client required a solar PV system that would provide significant energy savings without disrupting the visual appeal of the golf course and its expansive views. The project needed to incorporate a low-profile installation to meet aesthetic considerations and overcome a DNO restriction on AC-connected capacity. Westwood Energy was tasked with creating an effective, discreet solar solution.
105.60kW | York
Westwood Energy successfully implemented a 105.60kW solar PV ground mount system at a prestigious golf club and spa in York. Using a low-profile ballast solution from Sunfixings, the installation was designed to blend seamlessly with the natural aesthetics of the golf course, ensuring minimal visual impact from both the course and the clubhouse terrace. Advanced SolarEdge technology was employed to navigate DNO capacity restrictions, delivering a high-performance solution that met the client’s needs.

How much could solar PV save you?
Modules: 105.60kW of Solar PV
Mounting System: Sunfixings Light Tegra (Low Profile Ballast Solution)
The solar PV system was mounted using Sunfixings Light Tegra, a low-profile ballast solution that kept the array height to a maximum of 350mm above ground. This design allowed the installation to be effectively screened by the surrounding reeds, hedgerows, and trees, maintaining the scenic integrity of the golf course. By leveraging SolarEdge’s “overdriving” capabilities, we addressed the DNO’s restriction on AC connected capacity (66kW) and successfully installed a 105kW array.
The system generates 75.8MWh annually, with 81% of the energy consumed on-site and 27% of import demand offset. This translates into annual savings of approximately £21,200, demonstrating the effectiveness of the installation in reducing energy costs while preserving the visual aesthetics of the golf club and spa.
”“We are very happy with the job Westwood Energy made installing our PV system at The Oaks Golf Club and Spa.
Westwood put together a design report based around our energy demands and guided us on the best possible solution, potential savings and ROI.
We really liked that Westwood Energy deploy optimisers as part of their solution. This has made the array more efficient and productive, especially with nearby tree shading. With us not having sufficient roof space for the panels, we appreciated that Westwood Energy could offer low lying ballasted ground mounted panels. This was particularly important near a golf course, the array almost completely out of sight.
From the initial design, grid & planning applications to the installation and commissioning of the solar panels, Westwood were great to work with and produced a high-quality job. We would highly recommend them to anybody considering a solar installation at their business.”
