Powering Wren’s largest solar project yet

OVERVIEW

Westwood Energy is delivering a landmark 5.9MW roof-mounted solar array for Wren Kitchens & Bedrooms at its Barton-upon-Humber headquarters – one of the largest installations of its kind in the UK.

This project will complement the 0.7MW system already in place, taking Wren’s total generating capacity to 6.6MW.

Spanning approximately 215,278 sq ft, the equivalent of more than three-and-a-half full-size football pitches, the 5.9MW system will comprise 13,104 solar panels, 6,552 optimisers and 48 inverters.

Once operational, it is expected to supply around 23% of the site’s electricity requirements and reduce Wren’s carbon footprint by approximately 975 tonnes of carbon every year.

The first phase of panels is now in place, marking an important milestone as work progresses towards completion in December 2026.

For Wren, the project represents its largest investment in solar energy to date and forms a significant part of a wider, company-wide programme to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

Alongside generating more of the electricity it uses on site, the investment supports Wren’s broader commitment to improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions and embedding more sustainable practices across its manufacturing and logistics operations.

Early feedback has highlighted the excellent organisation, communication and professionalism of the Westwood Energy team throughout the project.

Despite thousands of panels still to be installed, the system is already taking shape, and both teams are looking forward to seeing this major renewable energy asset come to life.
